At around 14:00 on May 29, 2022 (Sunday), five seventh-grade students from Jiangling County Experimental Middle School went swimming in the Tieniuji section of the Yangtze River. They accidentally entered the deep water area and were swept away by the rapids. Their whereabouts are unknown.
After receiving the alarm, personnel from the county public security, Changhang Public Security, Yangtze River Maritime and other units rescued at the first time. Eight search and rescue boats and more than 70 professional rescuers have been organized on the scene to carry out search and rescue along the river surface and the river bank. The relevant situation is under investigation.
With the advent of summer, the weather is gradually hot, and drowning accidents have also entered a period of high incidence. Parents and students are reminded to enhance their awareness of safety precautions and not to swim or play in dangerous waters such as rivers and lakes.
