China has a vast territory and abundant resources, and there are many cities with their own characteristics. There are also big differences in landscape and humanities. What kind of places are these extreme places in the north, south, west, and east of China? In this post, I will introduce to you the 8 most extreme cities in China.

1.The northernmost border city: Mohe City

As the northernmost county-level administrative district in China. It is one of the pollution-free natural pure land in China. The number of “good” air days in the year is more than 350 days; it is the only place in China where you can observe the northern lights and experience the extreme day and night. Monopolistic tourism resources such as the Christmas World, the Primitive Stone Forest, etc.; the Arctic Village, Stone Forest Geopark, Christmas Village, Guanyin Mountain, Shenlong Bay, Beihong Village and other scenic spots have been built. The Arctic Village is a national 5A-level scenic spot.

2.The southernmost border city: Sansha City

As the southernmost city in China, it has a unique natural landscape of tropical ocean islands. The land and nearby seas on the island are very clean and the tropical island scenery is beautiful. And the beauty here is not limited to the beach, sea and blue sky. Fuyuan is one of the five major ports of Heilongjiang to Russia. It is located in the economic core area of China, Japan, Russia, and South Korea in Northeast Asia. It is only 65 kilometers away from Khabarovsk, the political, economic, military, and cultural center of the Russian Far East.

It is adjacent to Atushi City to the east, Shufu County to the southeast, Akto County to the southwest, and Kyrgyzstan to the northwest. Wuqia Town, the county seat, is 1,500 kilometers away from Urumqi Highway. Wuqia County is located at the junction of the southern foot of Tianshan Mountain and Kunlun Mountain. It is adjacent to Atushi City and Shufu County to the east, Akto County to the south, and Kyrgyzstan to the northwest.

5.The most northwest border city: Altay City

“Altai” is a Turkic language, meaning “Golden Mountain”. It is named after the mountain contains gold. There are “72 ditches in the Altai Mountains, and there are gold in the ditch.” The Irtysh River in Altay City is the only river in China that flows into the Arctic Ocean. The Brento sea area in Fuhai County covers an area of 100,000 hectares, rich in more than 10 species of fish, and is known as the “Northland Fishing Village”. The Altay Mountains and rivers are magnificent and diverse, with unique natural scenery. The main scenic spots include Kanas Lake Nature Reserve, Burgen River Beaver Nature Reserve, Butterfly Valley, etc.

Dandong is rich in geothermal resources and is a well-known hot spring resort, and has been named the “Chinese Hot Spring City”. Dandong is known as “China’s largest and most beautiful border city”

7.The most southwestern border city: Tengchong

Tengchong is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese, a state of literature and a distribution center for emeralds, and a provincial-level historical and cultural city. Tengchong was called Yunnan Yue in the Western Han Dynasty, and Tengchong Mansion was established in the middle of Dali Kingdom. Due to the important geographical location, heavy troops have been sent to garrison in the past dynasties, and the Stone City was also built in the Ming Dynasty, which is called “the first city on the extreme edge”. The main tourist attractions in Tengchong include Volcano Group National Park, Dieshui River Waterfall, Beihai Wetland Reserve, Guoshang Cemetery, Ai Siqi’s Former Residence, etc.

8.The most southeastern border city: Taitung County

Located in the southeast of Taiwan Province, the third largest county in Taiwan. It faces the Pacific Ocean (Philippine Sea) to the east, Pingtung County and Kaohsiung City to the south and west, bordered by the Central Mountain Range, and Hualien County to the north. Taitung County was selected as the “2019 China’s Most Beautiful County List”.
