Japan Provides Vaccine To Taiwan, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Responds

On June 4, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin presided over a regular press conference.
A reporter asked that Japan today provided Taiwan with 2.4 million doses of AstraZeneca’s new crown vaccine as free aid, saying that this is more than twice the current stock of Japan. The Japanese side called this a friendly move. Does the Chinese side think the same way?
Wang Wenbin said that I have noticed the relevant reports, and I have also stated China’s attitude on this before. The mainland and Taiwan are a family connected by blood. We empathize with the severe epidemic faced by Taiwan compatriots and have always made it clear that we are willing to do our utmost to help them tide over the difficulties as soon as possible. However, in the face of the goodwill of the mainland and the urgency of the Taiwan compatriots who are looking forward to using mainland vaccines, the DPP authorities have blocked the importation of mainland vaccines to Taiwan in every possible way, and even falsely claimed that the mainland has hindered its procurement of vaccines. For their own political self-interest, the DPP authorities continue to engage in political manipulation in anti-epidemic cooperation. This is a disregard for the lives and health of Taiwan compatriots and violates the basic humanitarian spirit.
“Pandemic prevention is the most important and life is paramount.” Wang Wenbin said: “I would like to advise the Taiwan authorities to focus on scientific epidemic prevention, remove man-made political obstacles, and ensure the lives, health, interests and well-being of Taiwan compatriots. China has always been consistent. We support anti-epidemic cooperation and make positive contributions to this. We also hope that relevant parties will earnestly implement the original intention of assisting vaccines to save lives and not be obsessed with political shows.”
