J.D.Power China’s New Car Quality Rankings: Changan First

J.D.Power China's New Car Quality Rankings:changan first
On September 2, JD Power released the 2021 China New Car Quality Study SM (IQS). The study shows that as more and more technological configurations are introduced into vehicles, quality problems related to intelligent technology have increased significantly. The infotainment system has become the quality area where Chinese consumers complain the most.
Cai Ming, general manager of J.D. Power’s China Automotive Products Division, said: With the improvement of the development of automotive intelligence, related quality issues have gradually surfaced.
Compared with the problems in the traditional quality field, the quality problems of intelligent products are more caused by poor experience due to poor design. This requires car companies to pay more attention to the software experience, establish an effective software quality management system, and better respond to the challenges of the software-defined automotive era.
Among them, Porsche, Guangqi Honda and Changan Automobile ranked first in luxury cars, mainstream cars and independent brands respectively.
In China’s new car quality research, Changan Automobile ranked first with 202 (number of problems per 100 vehicles), Chery was second, and Lynk & Co was third. While Geely ranked tenth, Great Wall was in the ranking list, and the number of problems was higher than the industry average of 213.
The following are other findings from the 2021 study:
The quality of mainstream cars leads luxury cars for the first time: In 2021, the overall quality of mainstream car brands will be 209 PP100, and the leading luxury car brands will be 7 PP100. This is the first time since J.D. Power has launched a new car quality study in the Chinese market.
Mainstream cars have significantly less quality complaints in terms of infotainment systems and configuration/control systems/dashboards than luxury cars, but they lag significantly behind in terms of body appearance. J.D. Power’s American New Car Quality Research shows that since 2016, the quality of new cars from mainstream American car brands has led luxury cars for five consecutive years.
The quality performance of new energy vehicles in terms of intelligence is better than that of traditional energy vehicles: In the quality problems shared by traditional energy vehicles and new energy vehicles, the quality of the driving experience and body appearance category of traditional energy vehicles is better than that of new energy vehicles, but driving assistance And the quality performance of the infotainment system category lags behind that of new energy vehicles.
The image of independent brands has improved in an all-round way: The gap between independent brands and international brands has narrowed from 10 PP100 in 2020 to 5 PP100 in 2021. Compared with 2020, independent brands have made progress in all brand image elements, especially in terms of reputation and environmental protection, with an increase of 10% each.
Too slow charging of the power socket/USB interface has become the primary complaint of consumers: in 2021, the charging of the power socket/USB interface is too slow (8 PP100) to exceed the peculiar smell in the car (7.8 PP100) and excessive tire noise (7.5) PP100) has become the most complained point of consumers in 2021. Since J.D. Power first raised the odor problem in cars in 2015, the quality problem has been greatly improved at the industry level.
Highest ranked brands and models
Porsche (199 PP100) won the first place in the quality of new luxury car brands. Audi (207 P100) and Volvo (208 PP100) ranked second and third respectively in luxury car brands.
It is reported that the 2021 China New Car Quality Study (IQS) is based on the real feedback from 34,158 car owners who purchased cars between June 2020 and March 2021. The study covers 264 models of 58 brands, and data collection was conducted in 70 major Chinese cities from December 2020 to May 2021.
