The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Economic Daily jointly released the “18th Report on China’s Urban Competitiveness.” The report conducts a multi-dimensional comparative study of 291 cities in 4 regions of China’s two sides of the strait in 2020, and comprehensively evaluates cities based on nine major cities’ comprehensive economy, economic sustainability, soft business environment, and local factors.

[table id=15 /] The 18th report on China’s urban competitiveness shows that Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou rank among the top five in terms of comprehensive economic competitiveness, followed by cities such as Suzhou, Taipei, Nanjing, Wuhan, and Wuxi.
Overall, the ranking of China’s most competitive cities shows a pattern of “high in the east and low in the west, high in the south and low in the north, rising in the east and steady in the west, rising in the south and falling in the north”, especially the metropolis formed by large cities dominates the national economy Patterns, such as Beijing and surrounding cities, Qingdao and surrounding cities, Jinan and surrounding cities, Zhengzhou and surrounding cities have good results.
From a regional perspective, the top 10 cities have only one northern city in Beijing, and there are only 9 cities in the north of the top 50. The overall economic competitiveness is still in a state of “strong in the south and weak in the north”. The development is quite different.
